Mu Qian is a music curator who obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in English Language and Literature from Nanjing University and a Master’s Degree in Musicology from the China Conservatory. Mr. Mu established the Pentatonic Workshop in 2003, which is devoted to the expression of traditional music from the contemporary perspectives and the promotion of the integration of traditional and contemporary music. He is now Music Director of Shanghai World Music Festival and MOMA Post Mountain Music Art Festival. Mr. Mu won a fellowship from the Asian Cultural Council in 2013 and is scheduled to embark on a seven month world music studies tour in the USA in 2014. Mu Qian is also a regular columnist who has written numerous articles for such media as China Daily and the Financial Times Chinese edition. He is also the translator of the Chinese version of Alan P. Merriam’s The Anthropology of Music.
